Renewal Information

All Kansas Appraiser credentials expire on June 30 of every year, and renewal applications are due no later than May 31 of each year to avoid a late fee. Licenses not renewed by June 30 will expire; late renewals are accepted through September 30 of each year. If a license is not renewed within 90 days of expiration, the license is forfeited, and the appraiser must reapply entirely.

The renewal cycle typically opens around mid to late March of each year. Renewal reminders emails will be sent when the renewal becomes available. Renewal applications may be submitted on paper using the Board’s Renewal Application Form OR online through the Online Licensing System. The renewal reminder email will contain instructions for submission using either method.

The renewal fee is $200 for Provisional licensees and $240 for all other classifications (this includes the $40 national registry fee). The late fee is $50 for all classifications. Payment of all applicable renewal fees is due at the time of submission.

Continuing Education

Although each appraiser renews annually, continuing education runs on a two-year cycle. Renewals during even years ( ex. 2022, 2024, etc.) do not require you to log continuing education. You will simply complete the renewal application and submit it with the renewal fee. Renewals during odd years (ex. 2023, 2025, etc.) require that most appraisers log 28 hours of continuing education.

Education cycles are determined by several factors. Generally, the cycle will run from July 1 of each odd year through May 31 of the following odd year. However, if the license was renewed after June 30 of the previous odd year, your education cycle would run from the date that renewal was processed through May 31 of the following odd year [ex: If you renewed late on July 15, 2025, then your education cycle would run from July 15, 2025 through May 31, 2027]Renewing late results in a shorter CE cycle, not a lower amount of required CE hours. If your Kansas license was originally issued during the current education cycle, the issue date would be the beginning of the cycle. Courses completed prior to issuance of your Kansas license cannot be used to meet any continuing education requirement.

During every two-year education cycle, each appraiser is required to complete the 7-hour USPAP Update course as a part of the hours required. The 15-hour tested USPAP course cannot be substituted for the Update course. Beginning January 1, 2026, a Valuation Bias and Fair Housing Laws and Regulations (VBFH) course will also be required for every two-year education cycle. The first time an appraiser completes the VBFH course, the course must be 7-hours in length. Every two-years thereafter, the VBFH course must be at least 4 hours. Click here to view the 2026 Real Property Appraiser Qualification Criteria.

Appraisers whose license will have been in effect for 184 days or less by the odd year expiration date are not required to log any continuing education. Appraisers whose license will have been in effect for 185 days or more by the odd year expiration date will be required to meet 14 hours of continuing education. Of those 14 hours, 7 must be in USPAP update and all 14 hours must have been completed after their original Kansas license issue date. See note above regarding new course requirement effective January 1, 2026.

It the responsibility of the appraiser to keep track of their continuing education credit. Appraiser must retain course completion certificates for five years after completion and make the certificates available to the board upon request.
